I’ve been thinking about that ‘Turn Away Before I Cry’ thing we both suffer from. I think it’s because we’ve both got fairly negative views of ourselves. Most of the time we just get on with it because it’s inevitable. Of course we’ve got cancer/a stroke. And then by chance something unexpected happens. And we see ourselves not from our standard viewpoint but as a human being. And we think: Christ, that person’s actually ME. And it totally disarms us.
